A young couple had recently purchased a house and called Walkley Plumbing because their hot water pressure was low and they couldn’t use their shower. On investigation a small cold water storage tank was found installed on the roof, which fed a converted mains electric water heater, with all safety devices disconnected. After consultation with the new home owners it was decided we would contact the gas board and have a new gas supply installed from the road. Walkley Plumbing installed a new gas main from the gas meter to a convenient location on the side of the house where a Thermann 16 gas water heater (supplied from our local Reece store) was installed. The old electric cylinder was removed along with the storage tank on the roof and the roof sheets replaced.

A customer in Pooraka called Walkley Plumbing & Gas Services because their toilet was not draining properly. The toilet was installed several years ago with new PVC pipe onto the old clay earthenware pipe. It was wrongly sealed allowing tree roots over time to penetrate the joint. No inspection opening was installed either so we used our CCTV camera to locate the blockage and installed a new inspection opening once the blockage was cleared by our hydro jet machine.

This was a call out to an old Rheem storage heater that was leaking from the storage vessel itself. This was replaced with a new Everhot 5 star gas storage heater purchased from a local Reece Plumbing store. Also installed was a hot tempering valve; this delivers hot water at 45 / 50 c for enhanced safety and a decreased risk of scalding. By insulating all hot water pipes (as shown in the pictures) this will increase the hot water unit energy efficiency.

I came across this Vulcan wall heater in which the flue was left terminated in the loft space allowing flue products (carbon monoxide) to discharge in to the loft space. This could potentially make its way in to the living areas in the home, and in particular, the bedrooms. The flue was incorrectly installed; it was leaning at an angle and was in contact with the roof joist which had become a potential fire hazard as there was no air gap between the hot metal flue and the timber joist. As a consequence of this flue being installed at an angle, it was incorrectly sealed to the top of the wall heater leading to carbon monoxide spilling in to the living room.
Before, during and after pictures of a complete ensuite renovation, including a new shower, toilet, wall hung vanity unit, and wall and floor tiles.
